They were in Britain when I was there in Sept. Souvenir shops often had them but there are specialty Christmas shops around as well. I bought a Scottish thistle, a Big Ben and a Beefeater. I bought some years ago in Austria and Switzerland too - a little cuckoo clock and one of those soldier men that you can make their mouths move - can't remember what they are called! |

On my last trip one of the women collected Christmas ornaments and managed to find them in most countries (Iwas traveling in May/June) it can depend on the countries you visit but I bought ornaments in Austria (a hand painted bell), Hungary and Germany (I went to Rothenburg - they have a permanent Christmas shop this was my second time there), the first time was a very hot day.. the group I travelled with were mostly American and were saying it was too hot to think about Christmas, I just smiled and said it seemed about right to me |

The Christmas Store in Rothenburg is magical.
It is very hard to buy just one thing there. There are so many gorgeous Christmas ornaments and decorations, and some beautiful displays. Certainly worth a visit, but be warned, you need very strong willpower not to walk out with more than one item. A friend of mine bought so much she had to post it home. But then she did the same thing in Florence when she went crazy in a leather shop!! JDee How Many More Sleeps! |

JDee ~ I think it is compulsory that you buy more than one thing - at least that is the way I operated in Rothenburg

That explains why I bought 7 scarves, but is there a rule about keeping the 'gifts'? I kept them all! And the t-shirts, and the tea towels, and even many of the post cards! |

When I worked, I usually went with bookmarks and magnets. Many places have the nice leather bookmarks. I usually buy tee shirts for family members. Have also bought note cards and calendars. I try for easy to transport items. Being retired I still have a small group of women friends that I buy small items for. This year I got them lovely little pillboxes (we're at that age

Must admit that one night we ate one of the boxes of Scottish shortbread intended as a gift. They were yummy.
I love the Scottish scarf I bought myself, wear it all the time. |

Mallee ~ You need to travel by my rule which is easy peasy: One to give & one for me Never fails to make gift giver & receiver very happy! Live each day....instead of counting the years. |

I must admit, there is something that I bought on holiday that was, at the time intended as a gift. However, when I got home, I could not 'bear' to part with it . I bought a Swarovski teddy bear carrying a sunflower, I intended giving it to my mother, but instead I gave her a leather wallet I had bought for myself. Luckily, she loved the wallet. I still, very much adore the teddy with the sunflower. I think it was meant for me

Luckily I am retired so when I travel I only have to worry about family. Is it really necessary to buy gifts for all the workmates, I can understand buying for a special friend but not everyone.
Apart from wasting a lot of time this can creates problems with excess luggage and maybe even prevent you from buying something special for yourself because you have run out of money or are already overweight with excess luggage. Missie |

Think I'm with Missie here. I'd never have bought gifts for workmates, nor they for me. But then, as a family, we exchange gifts only rarely among the adults, so I don't think in those terms.
