Isn't that like asking why Australian shops sell Marmite? As I said above, both products are marketed internationally. Chris |

Chris: No business sells a product just for the sake of it, there has to be a market for it. Lets just say it is marketed to the Australian Trafalgar traveller or Paul will close us down. Missie |

We can now buy both Vegemite and Marmite in our local grocery store. I tried Vegemite once, ages ago and found it rather shocking in taste.
Now that I am older and my tastebuds are more "mature" maybe I'll try it again and see what all the excitement is about. I recall it tasting like a beef boullion cube. Shannon The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. |

Shannon try vegemite with cheese. It is lovely. Unfortunately full of salt. My grandchildren love these sandwiches. |

Good to read that you have a high opinion of Marmite and I believe it is the original as you will read in the 'Attached'. Marmite.rtf (655 Bytes, 8 downloads) |

Marmite
A German chemist, Justus Liebig, realised that the brewers yeast could be made into a natty little concentrate, with a sort of meaty flavour and Burton-on-Trent was the birthplace of the Marmite Food Company (founded in 1902 in a disused malthouse, two miles from the Bass brewery). Vegemite 20 years later in 1922 the Fred Walker Company (which became Kraft Walker Foods in 1926 and Kraft Foods Limited in 1950) hired a young chemist to develop a spread from one of the richest known natural sources of the vitamin B group - Brewers Yeast. Following months of laboratory tests, Dr. Cyril P Callister, who became the nation’s leading food technologist of the 1920s and 30s developed a tasty spreadable paste. It came in a two ounce (57g) amber glass jar capped with a Phoenix seal with the label "Pure Vegetable Extract". Vegemite History |

Dragons, I guess that what Sanitarium are basically claiming is that they are first to have produced the original version of Marmite here in Australia and not internationally.
I also was pointing out that I agreed with Chris that Marmite was the first before Vegemite. Rita |

But as the story goes - God made Adam first - then He realised His mistakes and got the perfect form when He created Eve.
The same thing with Marmite and Vegemite - the second one is the perfect spread fixing the mistakes of the first made. travel is but a memory for the future - like about 7 years or so!!!! |
