Hello,
I was just wondering whether anyone has heard of the ghost ship found off the coast of Queensland?!
Here is a News Article if anyone is interested!

I wonder if this will cause many people to rethink sea voyages in Australian waters? I'm sure there is a logical answer for this mystery, but its still very intriguing!

Regards,
Rachel!

Rachael: This is not an appropriate subject to be discussing in a travel forum.

Oh, but it does contain a topic of travel! Surely the men/woman on the boat were travelling too! Also it could have an impact on tourism?!

Rachel!

Rachel: This is a Trafalgar BB to discuss Trafalgar tours. The boat was a private charter.

There were three men on the boat, no women.

Well it was used in the article, and isnt that the general term used when it comes to crewless boats such as these?!

Also, Missie I understand, maybe it could be moved? I'm not too bothered what happens I just felt this was an article of interest! Smiler

Rachel!

Rachel, not to worry - there are lots and lots of posts on this board that have nothing to do with Trafalgar Tours - it's up to the "powers that be" to decide what is an appropriate discussion and what is not. If he feels it is not then your post will be removed or closed.

Welcome to the Board.

I fail to see how this incident could possibly have any impact on tourism in any country. A man buys a boat in Queensland & with two others decides to sail it home to Western Australia. At some stage of the journey the three on board go missing. Interesting yes! But it certainly would not deter me from travel to the country in which this happened. Confused Frowner

I agree. If it were a cruise ship, now THEN I'd be worried, but in this case it looks like there were some squalls, maybe one fellow fell overboards and perhaps the others also fell while trying to help him.

Hi Shannon,

I agree with you (note twice in two days that we agree) Big Grin This type of incident has nothing to do with the travel industry in Australia. Smiler

I read the forum discussion on this piece of news on a Czech newspaper website…..yes, it made the news in a small land-locked European country Wink
Very few took it seriously. For most, the absolutely irreverent Czechs suggested various ways how they understand this mystery happened. Some were funny, some Frowner...distasteful.
None suggested they would be put off travelling to Australia...in fact most would LOVE to come here for a visit and the adventure.
Now I am not sure about Trafalgar offering tours for Europeans here and what's the market like. Our friends from across the Pacific complain (justifiably, as far as I am concerned) of the unusually high costs of AAT Kings/TT tours here, when they compare them with the costs of booking a TT in Europe. Please note I am not referring to airfares, just the actual land costs. Combine this with the airfares to come here from Europe in the first place…..and the minimum 22hrs flights needed. I wonder if TT has considered to offer perhaps some special off-season Australia and New Zealand package deals with airfares included for North Americans and Europeans? I mean in similar ways as we have deals for off- peak travel + tours in Europe?

Australena: You make some very valid points, we are blessed in this country with all year round good weather especially in the northern states, although I'm sure Yvon and his wife may not agree with me, they seemed to cop rain everywhere they went.

Yvon, please come back and bring that rain. Big Grin

This yacht crew going missing is a very sad occurrence, but, it is no different to people disappearing off the face of the earth in general.

Rachelle, I am sorry if I sounded mean spirited towards you, that was certainly not my intention. Smiler

australena - I would surmise that if the tours here are of high cost it is because of the enormous distances involved. I think that a lot of tours in Oz involve flights between destinations, otherwise there would be Buckley's chance of seeing much at all.

That's what I also assumed at first, Steve, but it is sadly not the case. After reading one of the complaints, I visited TT's Canadian site and looked at Aus+NZ tours from there. Although the tour mentioned flights in the itinerary between NZ and Aus, then further flights beteen various Australian destinations, which - as we both know- are neccessary to get the passengers transferred in realistic time, there is a disclaimer mentioned at the rates. It says that NO FLIGHTS are included in the price. That obviously is an extra on top of the land costs.

australena - I stand corrected! In that case there is seemingly no valid excuse for high prices - accommodation and travel is not THAT expensive in Aus - it sounds like they are playing on the ignorance (not talking about intelligence here) of visitors to our shores!
