Hi FTWMitch Are you coming to visit us then? March is a good time to visit here as the weather should be more settled. We have a beautiful country for you to explore. If you have any questions I can help with please ask. Where are you from? Happy planning Gaeley

Hey Gaeley, yes I am coming to visit your great country. I am leaving the United States on the 10th of March and will arrive there on the 13th. I am looking forward to the great weather, because we have ice and snow right now. Strange for Texas, but we are having a bad winter this year. I am looking forward to my 16 days in there.
A warm welcome ahead of your NZ tour. I am sure you will enjoy our beautiful land. I'm sure we can accomodate you with lovely warm weather....We are also looking forward to some ourselves as it has been a bit chilly over the holiday period but as usual the settled weather arrives just in time for when people are returning to work
How long is your tour? Which areas does the tour include?

Hey NZ Nurse, the tour is 16 days and we are travelling all over. Here is a sample Tranz Alpine, Franz Josef, Walter Peak Station, Milford Sound, Dunedin, Mount Cook, Lake Tekapo, Christchurch, Picton, Wellington, Rotorua, Waitomo, Queenstown, Auckland. I am excited and counting down the days (only 51 left) Not looking forward to the long flight, but I know it will be worth it when I get there.
You are going to love it all and will see some amazing scenery in all of those areas. (and of course - some great people) In such a small country we have just diverse scenery in such short travel times. From the more populated North Island to the ruggedness of our South Island. I live at the top of the South Island and have travelled all over our country several times, by car, and by vintage car which gives you time to appreciate your surroundings as you travel. I love the (wild) West Coast of our South Island and even if the weather is not always good it is still such a beautiful area. I can't think of Texas as being cold as on a visit we made several years ago we were sooo hot. Have a wonderful trip. We are also counting down to a trip to Europe in May/June. 18 weeks to go. Gaeley

Gaeley we loved our trip to New Zealand quite a few years ago not. Found that the country kept changing, and that the South Island is so different from the North. We think Christchurch is very similar to Adelaide.

I wholeheartedly agree with jenno - NZ is the most spectacular, varied and tourist/traveller friendly country that I have yet to see. Please for 'not' read 'now'!

SteveH, you'll be very welcome when you decide to visit us. My husband's birthday is March 13th (the day you arrive) FTWMitch - so drinks are on him (Just as well he doesn't often read this board! Gaeley

Gaeley - my post was badly worded (not in itself unusual) - I should have said 'yet seen', not 'yet to see'. Have only been to NZ once though, will get back someday. Perhaps any particular natural feature is not necessarily as spectacular as somewhere else in the world, but so many features, in such a small area is wonderful. The best attribute is surely the people, though.

I agree with the sentiments about NZ. I wish more NZers would travel around their own beautiful country before tripping off overseas to admire everyone elses.
We ran into a couple from Auckland when we were in the UK and they had never been further south than Taupo in the North Island - about half way down the Island. They were raving on and on about the virtues of travelling overseas and about how lucky those in the UK were living in such a lovely place. They couldn't understand why others thought NZ was a great place to visit and had almost convinced one older gent that NZ wasn't worth the effort. We soon put him right and actually heard from him when he did visit a couple of years later.
Pack what you think you're going to need - then put half of it back in your wardrobe ! ! !
