Hello everyone,
I'm looking at doing one of the European Breakaway Tours in late 2008. I just wanted to know if Trafalgar Tours are strict with the age limits. I will be 39 next year and wanted to know if I will be able to go on the these Tours. Thanks in advance Syme |

Hello Syme and welcome to the bulletin board.
I think you might have to ask Trafalgar that question. send them an email and see what happens. Have you considered looking at the Costsaver or First Class tours, age ranges vary from tour to tour. Missie |

Thanks for the welcome Missie.
The reason why I'm thinking of doing a Breakaway Tour is that I'm not too keen to travel with the retirment folks. |

Syme, "now thems there fighting words" we retirees are a lot of fun, try us and see. I think the Costsaver tours probably have a broaders age range and they are more in line with the cost and accommodation that Breakaway tours use. Missie |

Sorry guys if I offended anyone with my "retirement folks" comment.

Hi everyone. New to the forums myself. My husband and I are considering a tour for next September. We're 28 and 36. Are the breakaway tours that geared to nightlife? I would rather be awake during the day to actually enjoy some of the sites I paid to see. It sounds like the costsaver trips are designed for all ages compared to the first class tours. Though we're younger, we'd rather have a good mix of ages versus the young party types. Would a costsaver be our best option? I've read some of the reviews on the costsaver hotels. Should I be scared?

Hi LMG, The first class tours aren't designed for retirees. They are for everyone from the age of 5 years, to whatever! You can get some 'party types' of any age on these tours. It really comes down to the itinerary that you want to do. If there's one in the costsaver brochure that you're happy with, do that. If not, have a look in the first class brochure. It tends to have a wider choice of regional tours (ie. tours concentrating on one country or a few countries) as well as the multi-country tours designed to give people a 'taste' of different parts of Europe. THe first class tours tend to have more centrally-located hotels than the cost-saver tours. If this is important to you, then its something you need to consider. I'm not retired (by a long shot - unfortunately!), but I tend to prefer the first class tours because I prefer the smaller regional tours. I'm sure, whatever tour you choose, as long as you're happy with the chosen itinerary, you will have a great time, whether its a cost-saver, breakaway or first-class tour. cheers, ClareS |

Hello,
I'm bringing this topic back to the top. I'm looking at the Breakaway tours for my first TT in the spring. I am 28 and plan on going solo. I'm interested in a tour that has people my age, but I'm also more interested in touring than partying. Has anyone been on the Italy Breakway? What's the general experience? I like a good glass of Italian wine as much as the next person, but I also like being awake during the day. :-) Cara |

Hello, I myself am 29 and have taken a couple of tours with both "older folks" and "younger folks" and BY FAR touring with an older crowd is the way to go!!! They are so much fun to tour with. Give it a shot. -Travel Guru |

Syme:
Age shall not weary them ... Maybe you shouldn't do a tour if you're really overly-worried about who might be on it. You will have plenty of "free" time, and might actually be surprised that "older folk" can be fun and more interesting than, like, you know, younger people ... You might even find yourself spending more time with someone older than younger - I know I have (eg when I want a beer older guys seem to be only to happy to join me). I quite like a good mix with me. Not too old (over 90 ?), of course, or too young (ie under 5 ?), but my wife tells me I seem to enjoy the company of certain younger folk more than others (I'm not sure who or what she means ... Anyway - at 40 you've already joined the middle aged. Get use to it ... TG - agree. Mike Take the Road Less Travelled |

Jewel: Trust me on this, while my mind would indeed subscribe to the theory that age is just a state of mind, my body won't play along. There are minor and sometimes major health breakdows that come along with aging that seem to give the lie to the old saying about age being a state of mind. Whoever composed this never got old

Hi, Have been on 8 TT tours and the ages were anywhere from 7 to 90. Anyone traveling is young at heart. You get a better experience with the first class. More included.

Oh Saint Mike: I hate to be piucky picky but when someone quotes Shakespeare incorrectly. . .
"Age shall not weary them ..." My teeth go all on edge: from Antony and Cleopatra: "Age shall not weary, nor custom stale / Her infinite variety." In other words, Cleo will never grow old--either that or she had an infinite variety of love tricks up her sleeves Travel is only glamorous in retrospect.
