Caitie~ I see words and numbers in colour. They never change, I see the same colour when I say "Ruth" (my mother's name) today as I did when I was 5. Or any other word or number. A single letter, "M" for example, is a dark, navy blue/brown, but a word that starts with "M" will not be that colour, although it will be dark. For years and years I htought it was just me, until I read an article in Readers Digest. Some people have it bad enough that they get a certain taste in their mouths (a real, literal taste) from words. That could be a problem!

Shannon: So - you don't see words as made of the many colors of each individual letter but rather as one color? Interesting!
A few years ago we asked a friend why he named his business "Shelburne" when that is not his name and he said that it was because liked the texture of the word. I can relate to sounds being soft or hard or smooth and silky or rough or liquid or solid, etc., but I never see them in color. How does your ability to "see" numbers and words affect other areas of your life? Does it give you a creative edge somehow? Does it affect your understanding of math? |

I think perhaps it does. I have been told that I'm creative (although that just might be people being polite, lol) and I am terrible in math and with numbers. I see individual numbers as colours, but a string of numbers is a gloomy grey, which is my least favorite colour and quite depresses me.

I've never really thought of it before, but as I write this I am looking at my phone bill. At a quick glance, I see four diget numbers as the colour of the first number. (ie) 4532 is reddish, as 4 is always red. 7392 is a lavender kind of colour since 7 is lavender. Just a quick glance at a string of numbers is gray, maybe because there are so many that my mind can't put them in a colour sequence quick enough? If I am telling someone a phone number, "seven, three, nine, two" I see the colour of each number.

Q: Shannon: What does your doctor say about your number/color visualizations?

I had never heard of it so I googled it and found some very interesting information. Actually, it's not all that uncommon and tends to run in families (so I read).

I've never mentioned it to a Doctor, it's sort of the thing that never comes up.

What the??
This post has been taken on a slight variation from the original post. For those who answered my question regarding spending money in Europe I thank you. To everyone else, all the best. Dave Never, trust a man if left alone in a room with a tea cosy and does'nt try it on as a hat. Billy Connolly |

Dave, it's not that unusual. Once the original question has been answered, posts do sometimes deviate a little.
