Well after waiting patiently for so long and counting down firstly the weeks and then the days our "Grand Tour of Canada" dream was snatched away from us at the very last moment. We were to leave on the Friday 8th July but unfortunately my daughter was injured when a bomb went off in the train she was going to work on in London, we had waited 5 years for this trip. On the brighter side we still have a very precious daughter and that could have so easily been taken from us as well...

Hi Karalin,
I am so sorry to hear about your daughter, thank goodness she was not more seriously injured. It is so disheartening when you have to cancel your dream trip but you will always be able to plan another trip, children are irreplaceable and just so precious (most of the time). How bad were her injuries if you don't mind me asking. |

Hi Karalin
How terrible for you. You must have been worried out of your mind for your daughter. While you are dissapointed about your trip you can, as Missie said, always arrange another but our children are irreplaceable. I hope her injuries were not too serious and that she is now OK. |

Karalin,
What a dreadful experience for you & your daughter. I can not imagine the upset to you all. I hope your daughter is improving. Will you go to her or will she come home to you? When your daughter is in fine shape again, re-plan your trip, it will give you something to look forward to & be so much more important after what has happened. I hope things improve for you all. |

Hi all, Thanks for your good wishes, yes we can do our trip again, and definately our daughter is irreplaceable and we would not have been anywhere else but by her bedside. She was actually in the carriage where the bomb was at Edgeware Road and was blown out of the carriage and hit the walls of the tunnel, she had her laptop computer strapped on her back and her ipod was playing hence she didnt suffer a broken back or have her hearing affected, thanks to modern technology eh. Her main injuries are her eye, we are still waiting to hear the outcome of these injuries,as she is unable to open her eye due to damage to the muscles and when the specialist does open it she doesnt appear to have any control (it does not track with her good eye hence she sees double), so they are thinking their is some damage there but want to wait and see how much the body heals itself, her nose was broken and also her cheek bone, she has had a metal plate inserted under her eye socket her knee was broken in 9 places and she has alot of cuts and bruises. One thing though Terrorists are not going to stop us living our lives, we shall continue to travel, we shall continue to go about our daily work without fear of being bombed. I feel for the other people who were not as lucky as our daughter and my prayers are with them.

Karalin,We here in Canada read about the London bombings with trepidation knowing that these mislead fanatics could strike anywhere.I read your posting with dismay and hope that your daughter suffered no lasting injury from the experience.Sometimes it is difficult for a while to sleep, etc.as I know from experiencing a near fatal accident some years back. One can only hope that this age of assassins like Ben Laden passes as quickly as possible and the world returns to an age of reason. Please dont let this disrupt any plans that you may have for visiting us in the future.Take care.

Hi deavfric
I totally agree with you, giving in to terrorism isn't the answer, we should go about living our normal lives and if that means travelling then so be it. Life is to short to worry about "what if's". |

Karalin, it might be worth making sure your daughter gets some good counselling after such a horrific trauma.
She is truly blessed to come out of such a horrible ordeal. Who knows, she might end up on Oprah because of it. Good things can come out of bad. My thoughts are with her. |

Thank you all for your good thoughts - yes she is having councelling the rest of the family have had some as well. One word of advice though be very wary of your travel insurance, our travel insurance was the top of the line with a reputable company, but it looks like they wont cover our loss of over $23,000 because the incident didnt happen in Australia (our home country) and she was not residing here at the time....wonderful of them!!

Hi Karalin
Thank you for the Insurance tip. Insurance companies are a law unto themselves, you go through enough stress whenever there is a serious incident without having to worry about whether you are fully covered or not. |
