My sister and I were on the Best of Italy & Sicily tour late Sept/early Oct. Our first night there we took an optional dinner (it was raining that night) to a little pizza/past restaurant in Rome. We ate on the second floor along with several other tour groups. Our tour guide was Vincenzo. Does anyone know the name of the restaurant?

We were left to our own devices on our first evening in Rome (well we chose not to do the evening optional, having only arrived an hour or two befgore), and discovered a nice little 'English Pub' just around the corner from the hotel. A pleasant venue, trouble is none of the staff spoke a word of English!!! If all else fails order a draught Guinness (OK I know it is Irish - but obviously the Pub didn't), and gesticulate wildly whilst smiling and trying not to shout, and point hopefully at the menu, which is in English, but means nothing to the staff - in the meantime it would be nice if someone else was in the building other than the staff - no when we left we were the still the only customers! When in Rome, look for lots of customers!!!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I'm the "other" half of Two Sisters Two - could someone please, please, please, reply with the answer to the original question: what was the name of the restaurant - instead of posting comments that have nothing to do with it.

- or even the name of the hotel that you stayed at would be helpful!

Carolina, this is a public board, and we will not be bullied! If someone thinks they might know the answer, then they will reply - meanwhile people posting to this thread will keep the topic at the top of the list, and at least you will know that people are reading your sister's question. Five hours after your sister's post, I replied with an anecdote, so that she would know that someone was out there. Meanwhile, I don't fancy your chances - too little information! There are thousands of restaurants in Rome, and many Trafalgar hotels, at least give us a clue. It is possible that you visited that restaurant, that night, purely because of the inclement weather and the TD's local knowledge - it is possible that no-one here on this board has visited that particular restaurant - and would you recognize the name of the restaurant if you saw it?

One posts , others reply but we are free spirits, and not beholden to you. Tread carefully, some people are easily offended!

In the meantime, welcome to the board, which part of the US are you from? Big Grin Big Grin

Carolina,

Do you have contact details for your TD or others from your tour, you would probably have more success asking them.

Rudeness will get you nowhere. We are here to help, but, we are not mind readers, we require a little more information than you have given to be able to help you.

To everyone who has replied -

Please lighten up a bit - you are misreading frustration on my part for rudeness. I meant no offense to anyone. My point was that a specific question had been asked and it seemed as thought it was getting lost in the comments about other places that were in your tours and not ours.

Steve: I don't think it's unreasonable to wonder why someone would answer a posted question with something having no relevance to the question and then call it being "bullied". Yes, your other comments are possible about the tour director's choice due to the weather and other conditions - we were merely hoping that someone else who was there remembered. Yes, we would probably recognize the name of the restaurant if we heard it. The hotel was the Grand Tiberio. And why on earth would I think anyone was "beholden" to us when all we wanted was an answer to one question???? You are reading way too much into this, and as you say this is a public board, so you shouldn't speak for anyone else - "free spirits" or not. I could construe that as bullying on your part.

Tammie: As strange as it sounds, we don't remember what piazza we were near. It was our first night in Italy; it was POURING RAIN - so much so that there was considerable flooding and a lot of power outages throughout the city and we were mostly concerned with keeping dry (few had umbrellas). The tour bus dropped us off a short distance from the restaurant and we had to walk a block or two down side streets to the place. We took the same route back to the bus wihout entering any piazzas. We did take a matchbook from the restaurant, but misplaced it later in the tour. Didn't realize we lost the name until we were home again. We would like to have the name so that we could complete our journals (your's was magnificent!)

Missie: Of course you're not mind readers, and we know the information is sketchy - that's why it's posted - in the hopes that it might ring a bell or two with another tour mate.

Folks, this is not all that important to get so bent out of shape about. If you can help, fine; if not, we can live with it.

No, Carolina - Frustration is one thing, rudeness is entirely different! You are frustrated because nobody has replied to your sister's question - the reason is that nobody on the board that has read the question knows!

Rudeness is another matter, the presumption that someone replying to the original question without an answer will create a smokescreen that will prevent others from seeing the question, and for someone on their very first post to say "could someone please, please, please, reply with the answer to the original question: what was the name of the restaurant - instead of posting comments that have nothing to do with it.", is very rude in my opinion, and asking for trouble. My reply was relevant to Rome, and probably of some interest to someone, at least.

You are not paying a subscription to this board, and you have absolutely no right to be indignant if things don't happen to your satisfaction. This board consists of hundreds, possibly thousands of individuals who enjoy talking about travel. I know that you are anxious to get the answer to the question, but nevertheless the fact remains that unless someone replies to the original post, it will disappear into the depths of the server's hard drive. Any reply will keep the topic towards the top of the 'today's active topics list', and 'since you were last here list' - surely any reply, particularly if you are new to the board, is better than thinking that you are being ignored. As I said before, if someone knows the answer, and sees the question (which they are more likely to do if people are talking to you), then they will come up with the answer, and be very happy to come up with the answer.

In the mean time, we don't need to lighten up, but I assumed that you needed to!

In any event, let bygones be bygones - by and large we are a friendly bunch, but we are only friendly to those who are also friendly! R.L. and I.D., please!

Steve: If you read the post, you will see that this is not my first post and I am not "new" to the board. I did not lighten up - I needed to explain the facts, which I did. You were the one who jumped in with "bullying" and "beholden", not me. I certainly did not feel that way.

At any rate, let's just end this and if you can offer anything constructive to the question, please do so.

Carolina - when you posted it was your first post! It is up to 15 at this time, but when you posted it was 1 - you can't fool me (I have been on the board for too long, to take any notice of that sort of nonsense)! Big Grin Big Grin Let me guess! - you have posted elsewhere since?

Your only mistake so far is trying to own a topic - things just don't work like that here. If we knew the answer to your sister's question it would have been answered by now.

Meanwhile welcome to the board, and to 'two sisters two' too (too many to's, too's and two's) Big Grin.

We really are a friendly bunch, but an inappropriately worded post, even though of innocent intent, can ruffle a feather or two!

I've just got my diary out and saw that in Rome 23/9/06 we stayed at the Roma Delta Colossea, and as an optional extra we went to a restaurant where we had anti-pasta, pasta, pizza and tira masu for dessert. Sorry I didn't put in the name of the restaurant because I thought the food only ordinary.

Carolina if you really want to know the name of the restaurant, google the hotel in Rome that I gave you, get their email address, and send them an email. From memory they had a few singers there that night. Enjoyed a wine, and a few beers that night. Just mention the Trafalgar Restaurant ( I was on the Great European Tour) and describe the food that you had there.

Sorry but you provide insufficient information for any BBer to provide an answer. There are a variety of places the TDs could steer their groups to. Afraid you'll have to do more leg work on your own.
